Minimalist Interior Design Trends

The term “minimalism” first appeared in the mid-1960s and was used primarily to describe sculptures by Robert Morris and Donald Judd. Since then the meaning of this word has been expanded and is now used in different spheres – from fashion and music to design and architecture.

Minimalism in design is becoming more popular. Unlike other trends when the strict and cold motives were more preferable, today the accent is made in softer and livelier variants of this style. The fundamental principles of minimalism are sharp lines, solid surfaces, low furniture and pastel shades. Although, lately appeared softer forms, more colours and textures.

The main idea of minimalism design is to use simple and natural forms. This principle is a basis of oriental style in design, particularly classic Japanese design which became the very basis for minimalism. Famous designers who were the founders of minimalism were members of the “style” art group which was founded in 1917. Designers who prefer minimalism reject squares that are divided and placed for the visual combination of a building’s plans.

Minimalism in interior design means spacious rooms with minimal furnishings and details. The main element of this style is attention to form, colour and texture. Planning does not involve dividing rooms; Furniture, panels or partitions of glass play the role of separators. In modern interiors, the accent of design is made in geometric shapes and asymmetry. Form predominates over purpose. The furniture should be aerodynamic and upholstered in neutral leather. The shiny surfaces and straight lines look incredible on this interior. The details must be of stainless steel or chromed. The number of accessories should be minimal. The flooring should be made of materials that are easy to clean and care for – wood, linoleum or stone tiles. You need to provide enough space to keep all your stuff (simply designed closet would be just great).

What about colour, I have to say that white is the main colour for this style. White should form the basis for walls, floor and furniture. Alternatively, you can choose neutral colours such as beige, grey, light green. At the base there must be unshowy colour, to make accents you can use any bright colour, but only one. The bright red colour is traditional and the most popular choice for highlighting details on a white background although this is a matter of taste and you can choose any colour you like. Very often people hang a picture or some big details on the walls. Large windows that normally do not have curtains or curtains, create an effect of lightness.

Minimalism is popular because the interior in this style is very light and free. Minimalism is a way of life distinguished by the desire for perfect order and organisation. Minimalism is especially popular among businessmen and creative people who value the combination of simplicity, sophistication, beauty and practicality. Minimalism allows you to express yourself without using glaring accessories or unusual furniture. If you like simplicity and rigour in design, minimalism is what you need!
